Garuda seems to be going from strength to strength having just undergone a Management restructuring and financial turn around.
Indonesia’s National carrier has just been ranked number one for the best carrier for Service amongst all South East Asia Airlines.

Garuda just recently beat other Southeast Asia Airlines for In-Flight Service in the Aviation Industry.
The ranking, conducted by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA), put Garuda at first place, with second place going to Bangkok Airways, third place Singapore Airlines, forth place Thai Airways and fifth place going to Malaysian Airlines.

CAPA provides independent research analysis for the aviation industry, performing comparative studies for airlines operating in the Asia-Pacific, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa.

With brand new livery, new aircraft, improved inflight service and entertainment, and innovative customer service such as the on board visa service, Garuda has made an amazing transformation in all aspects of the company..

The company plans to offer some of its shares to the public in the first quarter of 2011.
 

Tropical Cafe Renovations

We listen to your feedback. That’s why we are pleased to announce the construction of our new poolside restaurant. The new facility will provide an all weather venue for poolside dining.
The venue will also provide much needed additional seating capacity and a poolside alternative venue for Breakfast.
The renovation commencement date will be the 1st February with completion due around the 24th April.
During the course of the renovation our Theme dinners will be moved to SEN5ES restaurant and a light snack menu will be available around the poolside during the daytime and all other facilities will be open as normal.

Our new Golden Lotus Promotion of the Quarter is a Chinese favourite, the Garoupa Seafood dish..

Hot Stone Steak at Gracie Kelly's

Exclusive to Gracie Kelly’s, the Hot Stone Steak is a very unique dining concept. Each diner cooks their own meat on a volcanic stone! The idea of cooking on rocks has been used for centuries by all different cultures. No oil or fat is required to be used.
How it works? Simple, first your steak is placed on the Hot Stone by our Chef. Then its up to you how you cook it. The best way is to turn it over once to seal in the juices - this will guarantee that your steak will remain succulent.
Next cut your steak into smaller pieces and turn these again on the "Hot Stone" and Voila !! - they're ready.
The "Hot Stone" has a temperature of approximately 380º C and maintains that heat for about 40 minutes. Your meat will not burn and does not turn cold.

Service Charge

Did you know that the 10% Service that is added to your bill is shared amongst the staff members every month and is a major contribution to their livelihood.
It is a common system throughout Indonesia and is a great way to motivate the staff and involve them in the sales process in ensuring their guests are happy and that they will return.
Each month they receive over 90% of the allocation. 
It is also common practice to have a retention of the service charge (4%), a percentage of which is retained and paid out on an annual basis as a lump sum (similar to a bonus) and a percentage that is retained for loss and breakages (3%).
In this way employees are made accountable for ensuring that the hotel’s property is looked after. Should the amount set aside be over the amount of the actual losses and breakages then this is reimbursed to the staff on an annual basis along with the retention payment.
Hotels can loose many items, favourites being face cloths, towels and glassware, perhaps people don’t realise that in Indonesian hotels they are reducing the income of the staff.
 

Charity Update - Painting the schools

On the 17th November ten of the Bali Dynasty Management team and 10 children from Bali International School will take part in the painting of two of the schools the Bali Dynasty supports in the small remote hamlets of Pengalusan and Cegi.
The Bali International School Kids will help the hotel Management team as part of their School Community Service Program.
The mission is simple, to paint inside and outside of both of the schools.
Organized together with the founder of East Bali Poverty Project, David Booth, the Bali Dynasty Management team normally paint the schools annually.

The team will also be taking with them Wall charts, school books and school learning aids and materials kindly donated by our Bali Dynasty Guests.

Dengue Fever info from BIMC

Watch out for Dengue Fever!
We think it’s time to remind you about dengue fever… again.
The tropics and the rainy season… One unique combination that reminds us of dengue fever.  This disease can be found in almost every region and anytime of the year, with a higher incidence during rainy season, because it gives a better habitat for the vector, the mosquito, to breed.  In this article we’ll discuss more about mosquito bite prevention.
DEET. This remains the gold standard of currently available mosquito and tick repellents.  Comparison studies suggest that DEET preparations are the most effective insect repellants now available.
DEET has been used for more than 40 years and is safe for most children when used as directed.
Remember! The effectiveness of DEET varies from individual to individual and depends on climate changes.  For example, it can be washed off during swimming or by rain.  High temperatures make it less effective.  .
DEET should be used liberally and responsibly. It should be noted, however, that it has been intensively studied for 40 years and used in billions of applications. But allergic reactions have been reported and most of them resolved without any consequences.

Other Insect Repellent Products
• Soy-based Bite Blocker, is safe for infants and gives protection that averaged over an hour and a half.
• Citronella - or mixed oil based products, protects for an average of 20 minutes or less.
• Synthetic insect repellent IR3535, provides protection for 20 minutes to an hour.
• Repellent containing eucalyptus, offers protection that averages 2 hours and is a good alternative, particularly for children.
• Bayrepel, a piperidine derivative, mainly used in Europe, may prove to be very protective.
• Bath oils, all wristbands (including those that contain DEET or emit sound), garlic and vitamin B1, are proved to offer very little protection or none at all.
Other Preventive Measures. Other preventive measures include:
• Wearing trousers and long-sleeved shirts, particularly at dusk.  One survey suggested that this measure may significantly reduce the incidence of mosquito-born disease.
• Sleeping only in screened areas.
• Air-conditioning may reduce mosquito infiltration.  Where air-conditioning is not available, fans may be helpful.  Mosquitoes appear to be reluctant to fly in windy air.
• Don’t wear perfumes.
• Minimizing skin exposure after dusk.
• Washing hair at least twice a week.
• Burning citronella candles reduces the likelihood of bites.  Indeed, burning any candle helps to some extent, perhaps because the generation of carbon dioxide diverts mosquitoes toward the flame.  Smoke from burning certain plants, including ginger, beetle nut and coconut husks, have also reduced mosquito infiltration, but the irritating and toxic effects on the eyes and lungs may be considerable, such as the citrosa plant.  To date, no evidence shows much benefit but such methods are not harmful.

Galungan

This year Galungan falls on the 7th of December and is a Balinese holiday that occurs every 210 days and lasts for 10 days. Kuningan is the last day of the holiday falling on the 18th December. Galungan means "When the Dharma is winning." During this holiday it is the belief that spirits of deceased ancestors and the Balinese gods visit the Earth and leave on Kuningan.
They must be suitably entertained and welcomed, and prayers and offerings must be made for them. Those families who have ancestors that have not yet been cremated, but are still buried in the village cemetery, must make offerings at the graves.
Occurring once in every 210 days in the pawukon (Balinese cycle of days), Galungan marks the beginning of the most important recurring religious ceremony that is celebrated by all Balinese.

Most Balinese will begin their Galungan 'holiday' the day before, where the family is seen to be busily preparing offerings and cooking for the next day. While the women of the household have been busy for days before creating beautifully woven 'banten' (offerings made from young coconut fronds), the men of our village usually wake up well before dawn to join with their neighbours to slaughter a pig unlucky enough to be chosen to help celebrate this occasion. A long bamboo pole, or 'penjor', is made to decorate the entrance to the family compound. Visitors can see these decorative poles creating a very festive atmosphere in the street.
On the day of Galungan, one will find that most Balinese will try to return to their own ancestral home at some stage during the day, even if they work in another part of the island. The day after Galungan is a time for a holiday, visiting friends. Everyone is still seen to be in their 'Sunday best' as they take to the streets to enjoy the festive spirit that Galungan brings to Bali.

Every month we hold a staff gathering, where we celebrate our staff birthdays and present an update on new hotel products and services.  Here are our winners for September 2010.  These staff have excelled in their duties and the services offered to our guests.  We also have a Guest Nomination Award and this award is chosen by our guests who fill in the guest nomination forms when they are departing the Resort after their holiday.
Congratulations once again go out to our Star performers this month.






Employee of the Month, Front of the House is Gusti Suarbawa, or Gus to his friends. Most of you will recognise Gus from the Housekeeping Department keeping your room clean every day. Gus has been with bali Dynasty since 1990 and when asked what his hobby was, he replied keeping my three children happy. Nice answer Gus!







Employee of the Month, Heart of the House is Johan Zulkarnaen, or we call him Zul. Zul wouls also be a familiar face for most of you as Zul is also from the Housekeeping Department. Zul has been with us since 1990 and is married with three children. Football rules in the family and one of his sons is a keen guitar player.







This month we have our Supervisor of the Quarter presentation and this quarter goes to Wayan Sumerta from the Front Office. You may have spoken to Wayan, as he works as one of our telephone operators in the Guest Service Center. Wayan has been with Bali Dynasty since 1998 and currently has no children. 







Our Guest Nomination this month is Made Supadma. Made works in the Housekeeping department (yes, they have done well in the awards this month!) and has worked in Bali Dynasty since 1991. Made has two children and lives in Denpasar. He enjoys shopping with his children.
